Project Description:

A 166,000 square foot performing arts center, including a 1,700-seat, multi-purpose concert hall designed to support orchestra, opera, Broadway, film and dance, 178-seat black box theatre, backstage support, classrooms, 230-seat lecture room, rehearsal and events space and a new broadcast facility for KCSN public radio

Construction Cost:

$125 million

Project Timeline:

Scheduled completion: Fall 2010, Grand Opening January 2011

Scope of HGA work:

Full Service Architecture and Engineering through all phases from Pre-design through Construction   including Feasibility Study, Site Selection, Programming, conceptual Cost Estimating, LEED certification, interior design

Design challenges:

To weave the complex mechanical, electrical, theatrical, acoustical, audio visual and structural systems into a cost effective, energy efficient and sustainable design that provides a superior acoustical environment for the audience and serves as a memorable architectural and cultural landmark for the entire San Fernando Valley.

Unusual design aspects:

LEED Gold Certification from the United States Green Building Council (USGBC)
