Valley Performing Arts Center's 3rd Annual Summer Arts Institute
EDUCATORS—SAVE THE DATES!
July 22—24, 2013
The Valley Performing Arts Center is thrilled to offer our 3rd Annual Summer Arts Institute to deliver the highest quality of Professional Development! This 2½-day event will use the lens of the arts to rejuvenate and broaden teaching strategies to better engage students and improve achievement.
The Summer Arts Institute will be organized in the following sequence:
This first session of the event will be an artistic immersion into a specific era to explore major literary, historical, artistic, and scientific topics that helped to shape and define the time. This immersion will take educators on a highly participatory and interactive journey to create a memorable artistic experience.
The second session will build upon the previous experiential exercise to discover, expand, and produce practical teaching strategies and lesson plans appropriate for diverse learning styles across the curriculum. Special attention will be paid to investigating how these teaching techniques can apply to the new Common Core State Standards.
The final session of the event will introduce educators to assessment tools specifically designed for arts-based lessons and project-based learning. Often teachers design and implement excellent projects, yet are challenged with how to assess the success of the students’ performance in an accurate and measurable way. This session will provide techniques to “capture the magic” and take the guesswork out of evaluating an arts-based lesson or assignment.
