Valley Performing Arts Center's 4th Annual Summer Arts Institute
EDUCATORS—SAVE THE DATES!
July 21—23, 2014
The Valley Performing Arts Center is excited to offer our 4th Annual Summer Arts Institute! Join us for another incredible and memorable Professional Development experience delivered by our talented and inspiring Teaching Artists. Our 3-day event will widen our scope to explore and apply how Creativity can best be utilized with students in all K-12 grades in all subjects.
Over the three days, we will investigate these questions:
What is creativity?
Many students in the arts are told they are “creative” by others. What exactly does this mean? What about everyone else? Creativity is not something that a student has or does not have. It is something that they all possess, but needs to be more thoroughly discovered and nurtured. In this section, we will look to the most fresh and exciting practical research done on creativity and “play” all day.
Will my students still work with all this “playing”?
First, we must not confuse play with recess. Recess is when students often tune out. Play is when students can better tune in. We will offer teaching strategies that will help students strengthen their innovation and imagination to acquire the requisite 21st Century Learning skills (4Cs: Critical thinking, Communication, Collaboration, and, you guessed it — Creativity).
How will my teaching improve?
Equipped with the latest strategies and research, it will not be surprising to see how a classroom can transform into an exciting hub of learning activity. The students will be more engaged, so they will want to learn more. When they are challenged to learn more, their performance inevitably improves. Lastly, we will also explore the fascinating world of “attachment-based teaching” which optimizes neuroplasticity and learning in both teachers and students. With all of this, your classroom will become THE PLACE TO BE on campus.
