Deborah Voigt, soprano

May 19 - 7:30 PM

Once in a generation, a true dramatic soprano comes along, with a rare voice uniquely suited for the works of Wagner and Strauss: Deborah Voigt is that voice. Widely acknowledged as the pre-eminent dramatic soprano performing today, she has made her mark on some of the world’s most prestigious stages in both operatic and Broadway concert roles. From her interpretation of Brünnhilde in the new Robert Lepage Ring Cycle at the Metropolitan Opera to her critically acclaimed performance as Annie in Annie Get Your Gun, Deborah Voigt demonstrates her far-reaching range and sensitivity with beautiful tone, dramatic acuity and well-placed lyricism. She continues to expand her repertoire into Italian opera, singing the role of Minnie in Puccini’s La Fanciulla del West in 2010.

Accompanied by Brian Zeger on the piano, Deborah Voigt will be showcasing her talents through a wide range of pieces by composers such as Richard Strauss, Tchaikovsky, and Leonard Bernstein.

An Evening With Rufus Wainwright

June 8 - 8:00 PM

Grammy-nominated singer/songwriter and pop music auteur Rufus Wainwright is one of the most popular and critically-acclaimed artists of his generation. Born into a musical family (his father is legendary folk singer Loudon Wainwright III and his mother was the equally-influential Canadian singer Kate McGarrigle) he exploded onto the scene in the late-nineties with both his debut self-titled album and its follow-up, Poses.

Famous for his distinctive, deeply emotional voice and mastery of the piano, Wainwright has built a vast following. His prolific output includes a much-celebrated series of albums (Want I & II, 2003-2004), an opera (Prima Donna, 2009), and seven studio and two live recordings.
