Paul Appleby, tenor
Great Hall (Directions & Parking)
Thu., October 18 - 7:30 PM
Paul Appleby, a rising star in the opera world, makes his debut at the Valley Performing Arts Center in an intimate setting that promises to be one of the most thrilling events of the season for opera lovers. This presentation has a personal touch – seating will be on our Great Hall stage – allowing our audience to experience the full emotional range of this bright young talent, who is one of the outstanding artists in the 2012/2013 “New Artists, New Sounds” series. Appleby possesses an elegant, warm voice, and his ability to perform in roles such as Brighella in Ariadne auf Naxos (Metropolitan Opera debut), Agenore in Il Re Pastore, Lysander in A Midsummer Night’s Dream and Fenton in Falstaff, as well as singing sultry, vibrantly-colored Argentinian and Brazilian songs and jazzy American popular standards by Gershwin and others, is one of the reasons why The New York Times describes him as a “… nuanced, expressive and bright hued tenor.”
