Diana Krall's extraordinary new album Glad Rag Doll (10/02, Verve Records) is an exhilarating and adventurous exploration of new sounds, new instrumentation and new musicians. It stars a singer and piano player, filled with mischief, humour and a renewed sense of tenderness and intimacy.
Krall's "Glad Rag Doll" World Tour features songs mostly learned from her father's collection of early 20th century 78 records. On opening night of the most recent leg of the tour this fall, the Orange County Register wrote of Krall's risk-taking approach: "She may be mixing things up, but she's exactly where she should be." Of other dates, the Philadelphia Inquirer called Krall's voice "smoldering," the Seattle Times said her show was "breathtaking" and the St. Louis Post Dispatch called the musician "truly impressive" and the night an "exhilarating show - perhaps the best in St. Louis this year."
